Fulnek

The town was founded before 1293. It has undergone a complex historical development with numerous changes in owners of the estate. In 1480 it was registered in the Moravian regional boards and since then belongs to the Moravia. Fulnek was known as a seat of the Unity of Brethren and especially its member Johann Amos Comenius - thinker, educator and writer.  The town became predominantly German town since the second half of the 18th century. It was heavily damaged in the end of WWII., but was restored and historic town center was declared as a protected urban area. In recent years it is known as a town of origin of female tennis player Petra Kvitova - twice Wimbledon champion in single´s and bronze olympic medalist in single´s in Rio.
